Until 1942 the only high school in the Glades was in Pahokee.  Students had  to ride the bus to Pahokee from the Palm Beach County line which was almost to Clewiston.

In 1942 Belle Glade High (note; the second photo) was built but it was not certified to graduate seniors. Seniors had to go on to Pahokee that year.

I was a junior and this was a great year for us as we were the oldest and largest class in the new school. Many privileges as  well as responsibilities were given to us.

In 1943 we were the first class to graduate from Belle Glade Hi.  We only had 31 graduates as that was during W.W.II and some boys had left to join the armed services.

I am the only class member still living in Belle Glade.

The following letter was sent to me via e-mail by Letha STACY Rice, a member of the class of 1943.
